Gum Disease

Gum Disease, or Periodontal Disease, is caused by bacteria that lives in your gum pockets. This bacteria will eat away at your enamel, irritate your jawbone and loosen teeth. Gum disease can easily destroy otherwise healthy teeth. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to loss of teeth, heart disease and even bone loss in your jaw. The good news? Gum disease can be prevented and can be treated!

Gum disease can be prevented by maintaining strict and thorough oral hygiene. By brushing and flossing twice daily and having biannual teeth cleanings and checkups, you are well on your way to prevention! Keeping a clean mouth will not allow for plaque and bacteria to build up and cause damage.

If you already suffer from gum disease, don’t worry! We can help treat it. Through deeper, and occasionally more frequent cleanings, we can help clean out the areas that the bacteria has hidden in. Along with these extensive in-office cleanings, you will also need to have a more attentive oral hygiene routine. It is of the utmost importance to brush and floss twice each day to get rid of the disease causing bacteria.
